In the midst of the Microsoft hoopla surrounding the launch of Windows Vista, I was very close to upgrading. Thank God I didn't! I've heard horror stories about lack of software compatability, etc. I know my Sony videocam software for their new HD format, AVCHD, doesn't run on Vista.
How about you? Are you using Vista? Did you upgrade or buy it on a new machine? Any problems or other surprises?
I had a copy of Vista Business I aquired through my MSDN subscription last fall. I used it for a couple of months. You are constantly bombarded with "Allow or Deny" prompts when you do anything riskier than a game of Minesweeper. There were incompatibilities with Adobe Acrobat 7 Professional and my CD/DVD burning software.
Visually it's decent if you have the high end hardware to run it (I do). In my opinion (and I am not alone) there is really no reason to upgrade to Vista unless you are buying a new PC and are prepared to spend hundreds of dollars in additional software upgrades to get you to the same spot you already are with XP.
